This week we entered the second month of the year as January passed pretty quickly, so here we bring you all the major announcements made this week including Nextbit’s acquisition by Razer, Apple manufacturing iPhones in India and much more.
Nextbit acquired by Razer
The first acquisition of 2017 in the smartphone world is of Nextbit. The company behind the cloud-based smartphone Robin which was launched in India for INR 19,999 last year. It was acquired by Razer which is a Gaming peripheral maker. Also, Razer has brought onboard the management and employees of the Nextbit. Financial details of the deal aren’t known yet. Apple to make iPhones in India
Apple will be making iPhones in India soon and we will have a ‘Made in India’ iPhone, the iPhones will be manufactured at Bengaluru (Penya Industrial Area). Karnataka government on Thursday issued a release welcoming Apple’s proposal “to commence initial manufacturing operations” in the state.
Apple has submitted a list of preconditions, including 15-year custom duty holiday for importing various iPhone kits and other equipment. The government agreed to the terms but they were not concurring with the 15-years time frame. The production is expected to begin this June. Read more here.
ZTE A2 Plus launched in India
ZTE announced the new Budget smartphone for INR 11,999, The device comes with 5.5″ Display with Full HD resolution, which is becoming quite a norm in this price range nowadays. It is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek MT6750T 64-bit processor coupled with Mali T860 GPU. It packs 4GB RAM and has 32GB inbuilt storage with sd card support up to 128GB. Honor 8 Lite announced in Finland
Honor has announced the Honor 8 Lite in Finland, it sports a 5.2-inch display with full HD (1080p) resolution and 2.5D glass on top of it. It comes with 16GB of storage inside, expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. The phone ships with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Moto M now available in Grey variant
Moto has announced that the new Grey variant will go on sale till date. Starting 6th February 2017, 12 noon new Grey colour will be on sale. The device will be available on Flipkart for INR 15,999 and INR 17,999 in 32GB & 64GB storage options. Look here for the details about Moto M.
Lenovo k6 Power with 4GB RAM announced
In December 2016, Lenovo unveiled their budget smartphone with huge 4000mAh battery- Lenovo k6 Power. The smartphone was equipped with 3GB RAM and was priced at INR 9,999. Now the company has announced a new variant of K6 Power which comes with 4GB RAM and is priced at INR 10,999. It is available on Flipkart. Full specs of K6 Power.
Android 7.1.2 Public Beta now available
Google has announced the version of Nougat 7.1.2, it is incremental maintenance release focused on refinements, so it includes a number of bugfixes and optimizations, along with a small number of enhancements for carriers and users. If you have an eligible device that’s already enrolled, you’re all set your device will get the public beta update in the next few days and no action is needed on your part. ASUS ROG launched Gaming laptop in India
ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced the launch of its latest compact gaming Notebook ROG Strix GL553 in India. The 15.6-inch notebook was showcased at CES 2017 and is available at a starting price point of INR 94990. The Notebook is accelerated by a 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with discrete NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti/1050 graphics for flawless gaming visuals. It supports up to 32GB DDR4 RAM. PS 4’s 4.50 update brings HDD support, 3D Blu-ray capability for PS VR
The new PS 4 update is now rolling out for Beta users, support for external USB HDDs up to 8TB. Also, it brings support for 3D Blu-ray discs to PlayStation VR, letting you see 3D in full stereoscopic glory when you’re watching your movies using your headset.
Other new features include the ability to post updates to your PSN activity feed, similar to how you might share social updates on Twitter and FB, and you can even share in-game screenshots on the fly as status updates. You can also use those screenshots as custom wallpapers for your PS4 home screen, and the Quick Menu also gets an update with this beta that tweaks functionality for easier in-game party options.
