Parallels 17 now officially supports Windows 11 for Mac. Before this, Boot Camp would have been the only option for using Windows, but M1 Macs would not have been supported. But now thanks to the newer Parallels Desktop 17 update, it now allows Mac users to experience Microsoft’s next version of Windows on their Mac desktop. Parallels supports both Intel and M1 Macs and can even be used to run the Windows 11 preview.

However, if you’re using the newer M1 Mac, then you’ll only be able to emulate Arm-based operating systems, which means you’ll be limited to Windows on Arm. There aren’t a lot of people who are using Windows 11 via Parallels on an M1 Mac at the current moment, so if you do run into some issues, then solving those can take up a lot of times. Another thing to see here is that, M1 Mac users won’t really be able to use All the Windows x64 Apps because of the ARM Emulation of Windows. The support for Apps isn’t really great, but Microsoft does say that Windows 11 will improve it.
The company also says that the newer update of Parallels that brings support for Windows 11 is 28 percent better DirectX 11 performance, and up to 33 percent faster start times for Windows 10 on Arm Insider Preview VMs when compared to their previous version of the program. This comes alongside the up to 25 percent faster 2D graphics and up to 6 times faster OpenGL performance that Parallels says will be coming to Windows VMs on all supported Macs, Intel and M1 alike. One great thing for M1 users is that they will also be able to use both the BitLocker and Secure Boot because of the virtualized TPM which is also present in Parallels.
