Sony World Photography Awards

The World Photography Organisation has now started taking registrations for the 14’th Edition of Sony World Photography Awards starting from July 1, 2020. Other than the usual categories and features, the organization has now added a few new categories and application features for awards this year.

Participation in the World Photography Awards is completely free, for the first time in the history the organization has included the options to register via Facebook, Google Account or Weibo, the images for registration has to be uploaded via Instagram. The Sony World Photography Awards are an authoritative voice in the industry. Celebrating the best contemporary photography from the past year, the Awards give vast exposure and opportunity to photographers worldwide. Sony supports the Awards to help the continued development of photographic culture by giving a global platform to today’s talent.

In 2020, The World Photography Awards includes a total of four competitions comprising of Professional, Open, Youth and Students. Photographers worldwide are invited to submit to the application for Awards for four competitions Professional, outstanding bodies of work between 5-10 images across ten categories: Open, world’s best single images across ten categories, Youth, for emerging talent aged 12-19, and Student, for photography students across the globe. Under the National Awards program, the local photographic talents will also be rewarded.

New Photography Categories:

  • Professional: Portfolio, Architecture
  • Open: Lifestyle, Object
  • Youth: Composition and Design (July), Culture (August), Natural World & Wildlife (September), Street Life (October), People (November), Show Us Your World (December).

Submission Deadlines:

  • Professional: 14 January 2021
  • Open: 7 January 2021
  • Youth: Each monthly theme will run from the first day of the month to the last (1 July – 31
    December 2021).
  • Student: 30 November 2020

All category winners of the Professional, Open, Youth and Student competitions will receive digital imaging equipment from Sony. In addition, cash prizes of $25,000 (USD) will be presented to the Photographer of the Year and $5,000 (USD) to the Open Photographer of the
Year. All winning and shortlisted photographers’ works will be exhibited at the annual Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition in London and will then be toured internationally. The winning images will also be published in the annual Awards’ book.
