Signify(Philips) Innovations India UVC Disinfection System

In an attempt to restrain the expanse of COVID-19, Signify Innovations India Ltd, formerly known as Philips Lighting India Ltd, has announced the new portable Philips UV-C Disinfection system for homes which has been validated to effectively inactivate SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes COVID-19. The device is easy to use, comes with low maintenance and is portable. The product takes about two to eight minutes for disinfection depending upon the size of the object. Additionally, the product has been designed and manufactured in India and is another step in the company’s support to the government’s call for self-reliance.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has created fundamental shifts in consumer behaviour and needs. Advanced hygiene standards and minimal contact have become a priority for everyone at home and at work. To cater to this need, signify has launched the Philips UV-c disinfection system,” the company said in a statement today.

This new launched Philips UV-C Disinfecti will be sold in three different variants in 10 ltr, 15 ltr, and 30 ltr capacity which is priced at Rs. 7,990, Rs. 9,990, and Rs. 11,990 respectively. The product would be initially available on all leading e-commerce platforms and through select Philips Smart light Hubs.

The company has partnered with National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories at Boston University to conclusively validate that UV-C light inactivates the virus that causes COVID-19, Signify Innovations Vice Chairman and Managing Director Sumit Joshi said. The company also claims that the product can disinfect frequently touched objects and personal items such as fruits and vegetables, packaged food, baby products, mobile phones, keys, and laptop and more.

“It has a special glass door that blocks and contains all UV-C radiation within the UV-C disinfection system and allows only visible light to pass through it. It also has an inbuilt user safety feature of auto cut-off for the UV-C lamp, if the door is accidentally opened,” the company said.

The company said that Although the exposure to UV-C radiation can result in damage to the skin and eyes of humans and animals Philips UV-C Disinfection system has been designed to be completely safe for home use.
