DxOMark Image Labs has announced the launch of DxOMark Selfie, a new score for smartphone front camera image quality and has also released DxOMark Selfie scores of the first set of devices tested. DxOMark Rankings is a trusted industry standard for camera and lens image quality measurements and ratings.
DxOMark Selfie scores were generated using a dedicated scientific protocol based on both objective measurements and perceptual analyses of 1,500+ photos and 2+ hours of video taken with the tested device under various representative lab and real-life conditions. Here are the rankings of the first 12 devices the company have tested.

As you can see in the list, the Google Pixel 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 are tied at the top of the table, scoring 92 points each. The company said “Image results from both cameras are excellent. However, while Google puts a lot of emphasis on texture and detail and therefore accepts some noise in Pixel 3 images, the Samsung engineers have opted for a cleaner image and made some sacrifices in terms of fine details”.
Google Pixel 3 also achieved a score in Photo with 99 points. Equipped with a high-performing autofocus system, the Google Pixel 3 delivers good sharpness while keeping subjects in focus from a very close shooting distance of 30cm up to selfie-stick shots at 120cm. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 achieved the top score for video of 86 points, with key video strengths of accurate exposure on the face even under low-light conditions, good color rendering, and good stabilization in most test conditions.
