Android O was announced last week and was made available for Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel, Pixel XL and Pixel C devices. If you have any of these device, head to this link and flash them to install Android O Developer Preview. If you don’t have any of the above devices and are curious to know the feature of Android O, here are the list of features that been added to the latest Android version.

1. Notification Channels

A change that can be visualized in Android O is few changes in the notification area, again! Android O will give users more control over what notifications they want to see, if you want to be notified when someone likes your post on FB then, you can do that in ‘O’. Apps can create notification channels, which are categories that users can individually turn on and off. The Notification channel can also be added or removed by the app at any time.

2. Autofill API

Filling out a form with same personal detail is a pain and it is also time-consuming at times, Autofill API allows apps to register as a system-wide provider of autofill services, similar to the way we select a keyboard on our phone. It stores and secures user data like addresses, usernames, and passwords.

3. Custom Ringtone

Finally, Google is bringing the custom ringtone to Android, this was one of the basic feature that was needed to lot of us. In the list of ringtones at the end of the list, there is an option called “Add ringtone”. Once you tap it, you will go to a file picker where you can choose any sound file as your ringtone, which will then become available in the sound picker list.

4. Navigation Bar Customizer

This feature is seen on many Android custom ROMs, we can say that google has made it officially available on Android O. This option can be found in System UI Tuner, you can either shift entire layout to left or right depending on your usage. Also, there is an option to add a clipboard shortcut on the side of nav bar for better copy and paste management.

5. Adaptive Icon support

Android O has also introduced Adaptive icons to help users integrate better with the device UI, developers can now create adaptive icons that the system displays in different shapes, based on a mask selected by the device. So, more and more app will now come with dynamic app icons.

6. Notification Badge

Yet another feature related to notification in Android O, the OS now shows the number of notifications from a particular app. This feature was available on Thrid party launchers for many years, finally, google is officially bringing it to android.

7. Custom Lockscreen Shortcut

This option can be accessed in System UI Tuner, there you will get an option called Lock screen shortcuts. You can select 2 apps/tasks, one for the right and another for left. Here, you will be able to choose different functions to use as shortcuts like launching apps, opening new Chrome tabs, quickly jumping to certain settings functions and many more useful stuff.

8. Notification Snoozing

In Android O, you can snooze any app’s individual notification for  15mins, 30mins or 1hr. You can access this by sliding a notification to the side just a bit. It is there next to setting icon, simply tap on it and your notification will be snoozed(for 15/30/30mins). Also, undo button is also available.

9. Setting App

The Settings app in Android O has been completely revamped compared to Nougat. The settings options are now shown in a more organized way like categories, this results in the shorter list in the app. The list size is reduced by 50% compared to Nougat. It shows suggestion on top of the list as seen on Nougat. Finally, the slide-out menu seen on Nougat is not seen here. Here is the quick look of the app.
