Yesterday we were invited to a special screening of the India – South Africa World Cup match at the upmarket Guppy by AI restaurant in New Delhi, where Star Sports, the official broadcasters of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 broadcasted the match in 4K feed, transmitted through Tata Sky’s 4K set top box.
For all who don’t know about 4k technology – Television viewing has transformed leaps and bounds, from grained picture quality to Standard definition (SD), to High Definition (HD) and now Ultra High Definition (UHD) or 4k technology. Primed as the next generation in television viewing, 4K technology has found its way into Indian homes taking viewing experience to another level.
Now synonymous with firsts, Tata Sky and Star Sports have brought together the world’s first broadcast of cricket in cutting edge 4K technology.
The picture clarity in 4K enabled one to see the finest detail on screen. Right from the grass blade, to print on the T-Shirt of people sitting in the crowd, to hair line details of cricketers on the field. In short it was a visual extravaganza that made the experience of matching the sport as real as you can imagine.
Ultra High Definition or 4K beams content at a resolution of 3840 x 2160, which is 4 times the pixel of full HD. With the smallest details standing out in crystal clarity, even colors take on a whole new life with the 10 bit true color.
Star Sports will broadcast seven matches, including 4 India games, semi-finals and finals, in 4K technology. Subscribers can enjoy 4K within the comfort of their homes, provided one is equipped with the future ready 4k set top box, 4k TV and 4k channel.
