It may come as a surprise to many that a Chinese company has made it to the top of the most valued brands globally. But, the chinese company Tencent, a leading global provider of comprehensive Internet services and the company behind the WeChat app, dominates top position as the fastest riser in the 2014 Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands survey conducted by Millwardbrown, a leading brand research firm. Tencent’s brand value has almost doubled to rank 14th, rising 97 per cent from last year. With a brand value of $53,615m, Tencent is now the most valuable Asian and Chinese brand globally and highest valued brand outside of the US.
Tencent’s top rising position indicates the solid global force of social networking, beating rival social media presence, Facebook in second place. Overall, just under a fifth of the top 100 brands are in technology, accounting for all of the top 10 positions in most valuable brands, globally.
